The
lights of L.A. no longer mean the world
to the open eyes of an Oklahoma girl. She's learned the nights in L.A. are a lot longer than the days. And there ain't no learnin' like learnin' the hard way. They raised her right, straight and tall and pure. But the day Mama left them was more than she could endure. Daddy swore by the Bible, but all that just left her numb. She said you don't need a Savior if there ain't nothing to save you from. (Chorus) Now she's surprised at the way that her life has turned And she's growin' wise. Look at all the new tricks she's learned She's giving 'em all she's got but she never thought When she left home, she'd be spending her nights with john She tries to pray her way out, hopin' the Man don't see. She still hurts from the time he caught her down on her knees. She hopes Jesus remembers and comes to her rescue somehow. But she's in so deep, it'd take a miracle now. Big hand shakes her awake, says, "You got something to do. Good ol' boy outside paid top dollar for you." She walks out into the night tryin' to remember to smile Climbs up into the pickup... and looks into her Daddy's eyes. (Chorus) Now she's surprised at the way that her life has turned And she's growin' wise. Look at all the new tricks she's learned She's giving it all she's got but she never thought When she got home, she'd be spending her nights with John. (Tag) But since she's been home, she's spending her nights, With Matthew, Mark, Luke....... and John. |
